Mondragon

Mondragon
Mondragon is a little medieval town situated in the department of Vaucluse between Bollène and Orange. Set along la colline des Grès, Mondragon also extends to the other side of the Mondragon river. Located in the beautiful natural scenery of the Rhône valley and not far from the legendary Mont Ventoux, Mondragon is a very nice place to spend a holiday.

Remains of the medieval castle in Mondragon

In Mondragon one can still today find the remains of the town’s medieval fortifications.

In Rue du Moulin there is a gate with embrasures, bearing the town’s coat of arms. At the top of the town there is a medieval castle which is still inhabited although it was badly damaged during the religious wars. The castle’s strategic position enabled its control of the Rhône river and the road down in the valley. In the town you will also find a fine Roman style chapel with its bell tower as well as the elegant Hôtel de Suze from the 14th century with its renaissance facade.
Mondragon

At the other side of the town, in the park across from the town hall there is a colourful carnival-like dragon.

According to local legend the dragon lived in the hills above the town and haunted the banks of the Rhône river.
