Le Barroux

Le Barroux
The charming medieval village Le Barroux lies beautifully on a cliff top between the mountain range, Dentelles de Montmirail, in the west and the legendary Mont Ventoux in the east. Le Barroux is a quiet little town, lying in the most beautiful natural scenery. A holiday in Le Barroux offers good possibilities for exciting trips into the Provencal hinterland and for numerous outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, climbing, rafting, golfing and many, many other things. Also, Le Barroux is only around 37 km from the highly interesting Avignon with its enormous Popal Palace

Château Fort

Le Barroux is a typical Provencal mountain village with narrow, winding streets, old well-restored stone houses, small shady squares and several old fountains.

The town is dominated by an enormous castle which originally dates back to the 12th century. In the 16th century it was transformed into a very beautiful renaissance castle, one of the most beautiful in the region. The castle, which was restored in 1960, has, among other things, a chapel with magnificent wall paintings from the 18th century.

From the top of the village there are the most fantastic panoramic views over the Plaine du Comtat, of the mountain ranges, Plateaux de Vaucluse and Dentelles de Montmirail and of course of Mont Ventoux.
