The fortified medieval village, Peillon, is without doubt one of the most interesting mountain villages in the area. Peillon has a character of its own, perched high up – it is even considered one of the most beautiful perched villages, villages perches, on the Côte d’Azur. From Peillon there is a wide view over the valley, Peillon de l’Escarne. A holiday in Peillon, situated 20 km north of Nice, is like a voyage back in time – the village has steep, winding alleys and stairways with vaulted passages. The tall, narrow stone houses, stuck closely together, seem to be literally carved out of the rock.
